Ainsworth field Circa…
Housepaint on glass 12x14
Ainsworth field in Erie, PA is a throwback to many different times.
Built in 1914 the year after WWI ended. I remember as a kid going to single A ball at the park and when it was a full house - I swear you could watch the game in black and white in front of your eyes.
In the mid 90’s the Erie community built Jerry Uht Park - and we acquired an awesome ball park downtown as well as a higher class of baseball - but Ainsworth field - then didn’t have quite as much of a purpose and I’m sure the usage fell off the chart.
The park got a face lift from baseball supporters in 2004 and the park continued to host high school baseball - where I got to see my kid brother pitch some pretty good games.
This park and this neighborhood holds some serious nostalgia for many Erieites.I tried to make te painting reminiscent of all times- if that is possible.
I sketched the former Roosevelet middle school in the pic- but made it more of the scale of the building that currently sits there.
If you sit and stare at it long enough - you might feel the grit on your teeth from the dust of the diamond.
