Monument II
A rendition of Perry’s monument at the mouth of Misery Bay on Presque Isle in Erie, PA.
There has always been something about the peninsula that I had been drawn to. I have been blessed to grow up with this state park so close to me. I have long envisioned myself as Joe Root, or the first inhabitants of the area enjoying the diversity of this beautiful sliver of ground. I also imagine the difficulties soldiers must have experienced in those cold long winters when the young nation was at war.
The area has lore that I can feel in my soul and bones. I can sense where it’s dirt, sand, and water mix with my dirt, sand, and water.
This monument- which I know very little about has always fascinated me and I hope to paint it in many different ways as I hone my skills.
